When you’re trying to enjoy your backyard, mosquitoes can be super annoying. Here are a couple of steps to help you to reduce the mosquito population in your yard.
The first step is to look around for any standing water in your yard. Discarded cans and containers, tree holes, saucers of your outdoor flower pots, clogged rain gutters, and even your birdbaths can be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. If possible, consider changing your birdbath water weekly. There are also products available for mosquitoes for your ponds or water gardens.
Another step is to increase the number of mosquito predators in your yard or to plant mosquito repellent plants. Some birds and bats love to eat mosquitoes. You could install a bird or bat house to attract these mosquito predators. Bird or bat houses are easy to build, so you could even build one yourself. You could also try planting lavender, marigolds, rosemary, bee balm, or citronella plants since mosquitoes do not like these plants.
These are just a couple of steps to try to help you to reduce your mosquito population so that you are more able to enjoy your yard.
