In years past, mankind lived off of collected rainwater in many areas of the world, and it is still common in many areas. While there are many different techniques for collecting rainwater, it is not very common in households in this country, but it could be a worthwhile project that will allow you to have your own, “off the grid” source of water. Since it is an essential part of our everyday lives, having your own water source could offer some security.

There are a few things to keep in mind, especially if you are planning on having water for drinking and showers. It is very important that you have a clean water source in those cases. The water would need to be filtered, and you need to give attention to the surface that the water is being collected from. You don’t want water that runs over a roof with flaking paint and bird droppings on it.

On the other hand, some just want water to use for flushing toilets or for watering plants, and in such cases, you wouldn’t need to be so careful.
