We have the wonderful privilege of enjoying hummingbirds since they can only be found in the Americas. Here are a few ways to help you to care for your hummingbird feeder so that the hummingbirds keep coming back and to help keep them healthy.

The first way to care for your hummingbird feeder is the food that you use. You don’t need to buy expensive hummingbird food. You can make your own by heating up, but not boiling, 1:4 part sugar to water. Just allow the mixture to cool before pouring it into your feeder. You also do not need to add food coloring.

Another way to care for your hummingbird feeder is to clean your feeder twice per week when it is hot and once per week in cooler weather. You will be surprised how dirty and moldy these feeders can get, and this can be very dangerous for hummingbirds. If you don’t have a hummingbird cleaner brush, you can use a bottle brush or a pipe cleaner will also clean it well.

These are just a few ways to help you to maintain your hummingbird feeder. Hopefully, the hummingbirds will return again and again to your hummingbird feeder.
