Backyard Chickens

Many people today are getting backyard chickens. If you are thinking about getting chickens there are a few things that you will need to consider.

The first thing you will need to do is to do some research and find out if your town or city allows backyard chickens. Many places view chickens as farm animals, so you may not be allowed to own chickens. Or some towns or cities will allow you to have chickens, but you cannot have roosters. (Hens will lay eggs without roosters.)

Another thing you will need to do is to find out which breed of chicken will best fit your needs. So again do your research. Some breeds of chickens are quieter than others, some are better layers, and some do better with children than others. You will definitely want to consider the noise factor if you have neighbors nearby. Some hens can make quite a bit of noise. Also, if you have small children, you may want to consider a breed that is more laid back.

So if you are considering getting backyard chickens, do some research. You will be better able to find the perfect chickens that will suit you and your family’s needs.
