You may think that you can put every food into your garbage disposal. Here are a few things you should not put into your garbage disposal to help prevent problems.
You probably already know that leftover grease and cooking fat should not be poured into your garbage disposal. Once the fat or grease cools, it can clog up your garbage disposal. So just scrap off the cooled fat or grease into your trash. Another food that you may think is okay, is coffee grounds. Coffee grounds can also plug and damage your garbage disposal by forming a thick paste. Another food that you should be careful of putting down your garbage disposal is dry expandable foods. These foods may break down easily in your garbage disposal, but once they get wet, they may expand and cause a blockage. In small quantities, these foods should be fine in your garbage disposal, but if you have a large quantity, throw them in the trash instead. The last food item that you should be careful with is vegetable peels. Carrot, onion, or potato peels can slide between the disposal grinders, which can fill up pipes and cause blockages.
These are just a few food items to avoid putting down your garbage disposal.
