Cats need to scratch. They do this to remove the outside part of their nails, to stretch their legs and muscles, and just to leave their scent. No one wants their cats scratching up their furniture, so here are a few tips that will hopefully deter your cats from ruining your furniture.

The first tip is to try spraying a scent deterrent where the cat normally scratches. These spray scents tend to were off quickly, so you may just need to frequently reapply.

Another tip is to make sure your cat has an area to scratch. Cats do not like all cat-scratching posts. Most do like a scratching post that is at an angle or one that lays horizontally rather than just a vertical post. The post should also be in an area where your cat hangs out the most.

The last tip is that if all else fails, you could attach aluminum foil where your cat scratches. There are also pieces of plastic made specifically to attach to your furniture to deter scratching that you can purchase online.

These are just a few tips to help deter your cat from scratching up all of your furniture.
