You may live in a house that have what is known as a ‘popcorn ceiling’, or a ceiling with tiny holes all across its top layer. There is only one problem… It may have asbestos in it. Before the government knew that asbestos caused health problems to people, it was widely used in homes for construction use. How can you tell if your popcorn ceiling has asbestos in it? Well that is what we will be discussing in this article today.

When you test for it, make sure you first of all wear a HEPA, or high efficiency particulate air mask for protection, which will reduce the amount of asbestos particles you breath in. You will also want to wear plastic gloves of good quality that will protect your skin when you collect a sample to be tested. Then you want to spray a tiny area of your ceiling, then, with a razor blade, cut out the affected area and prepare to send it to a lab for examination.

If you end up getting the results back and you do have asbestos, make sure that you have a professional in mind who can safely remove that asbestos and popcorn ceiling to further protect you and your family.
